Mechanical Requirements
- Offset negatives or same-size mechanicals. 100 line screen for optimum reproductive quality. SIAM cannot guarantee the quality of reproduction for supplied line screens other than 100 line. One piece film for black and white; two pieces for color option. Right read emulsion down. Supply a positive print (velox acceptable). No bleeds.
- In addition to black, a spot color (PMS 3292 green) is available for an extra $200 per ad.
- If the artwork submitted needs any alterations, such as enlargement, reduction, or type changes, a minimum $25 fee will be charged in addition to the cost of space. We reserve the right to reduce material that is larger than sizes specified and to charge the advertiser for the services involved. Production material will be returned upon request.
Electronic Submission of Ads
The SIAM News staff encourages submission of your display ad in electronic form, in the following formats:
- PDF file, 100% to size. Please use postscript fonts (not TrueType) when creating an ad. Please embed all fonts when you create the PDF. If you need further information regarding the creation of your ad, please contact sellers@siam.org.
- Adobe PageMaker document, created in version 6.5 or below, 100% to size, save as a publication with all linked files, and with all fonts provided separately.
- Adobe Encapsulated PostScript® File (EPS), 100% to size, perferably created on a PC format, with all linked files and fonts supplied separately.
EPS files created on other platforms can be accepted, but advertisers may be requested to provide camera-ready art if these files will not output correctly.
Hard copies of all electronic submissions must be sent to SIAM's Marketing Representative, via mail or fax, as soon as possible.
PDF or EPS files should be sent by FTP, via the Internet, to SIAM's FTP server, which can be accessed by connecting to ftp.siam.org, logging on as anonymous, and uploading the file (or a folder containing the file and its required linked files and fonts) into the /pub/incoming directory. This directory is not monitored daily, so please contact the SIAM Marketing Department, via e-mail at marketing@siam.org, to let us know that you have placed a file and/or folder on the FTP server. You can also e-mail your PDF or EPS file as an attachment, although transmission via FTP is preferable.
If the only transfer method you have available is floppy diskette, mail us your clearly labeled advertisement on a Microsoft-DOS (MS-DOS) formatted 3.5 inch 144 megabyte floppy diskette or zip disk, and enclose a hard copy of the advertisement.

Composition and Design
SIAM will prepare advertisements for those who cannot provide camera-ready artwork. There is a $50 minimum charge, and complete quotes will be given after a review of all work involved.
